Greccio Housing recently hosted a ribbon cutting at its first Smoke-Free property, Uintah Park Apartments. Mayor Steve Bach celebrated this special event with us and helped Executive Director, Lee Patke, to cut the ribbon to the property.
This smoke-free property was proudly sponsored by Memorial Health System and Wells Fargo Insurance.
Along with the smoke-free property, Greccio has also begun providing smoking cessation information and classes, to help resident kick the habit, and then remain smoke-free!

Greccio celebrated its new property purchases with an Open House that was attended by our new residents and the many people who assisted us with the purchases. Many thanks to everyone who attending this fun event. We are so grateful to those who made the purchases possible and we are thankful to have the opportunity to assist 72 new families with affordable housing.
Greccio Housing has purchased Woodbine Apartments, adding 36 units to its rental inventory. Greccio now owns or manages 20 properties with 423 units. Click HERE or on the photo to read a Gazette article about the purchase.
Last night Greccio celebrated the end of the Indy Give! campaign by attending the award celebration and picking up a check for $19,322, which represents the total donated through the campaign, including matching grants. Many thanks to the many individuals who donated to Greccio through the campaign, and to the 5 matching grantors, Wells Fargo Bank, Penrose St. Francis, El Pomar Foundation, Kathy Loo, and the Apartment Association of Southern Colorado. AASC's executive director, Laura Russman, joined us at the celebration and helped us with the 'big check'. It was a great event and we're so thankful to have been part of such a great program.

Greccio Housing has purchased Unitah Park and Unitah Terrace Apartments, located at 2525 & 2531 E.Unitah Street, adding 36 apartment units to its affordable housing portfolio. Greccio Housing now owns and/or manages 19 properties with 387 apartment units. All properties are located in Colorado Springs and are dispersed throughout the city to best meet the community’s affordable housing needs. Uintah Park Apartments contains 21 units, while Uintah Terrace contains 15 units. The properties are situated next to each other approximately one-quarter mile west of Circle Drive.

This is Greccio’s first property purchase since October 2009, when it purchased Bentley Commons Apartments, and is expected to be the first of 2 such transactions over the next few weeks. Greccio Housing’s Executive Director, Lee Patke is excited to be acquiring these needed properties for Greccio, stating, “these units will provide many individuals and families with needed access to stable, safe, and supportive living opportunities for generations to come.”
The properties were purchased through collaborative relationships with Ent Federal Credit Union, the City of Colorado Springs Office of Housing Development, and the El Paso County Housing Authority. Greccio also credits the State of Colorado’s Division of Housing for its ongoing support for the acquisition and rehab of numerous projects that Greccio oversees. The total acquisition price was $1,176,415.
Many of Greccio's families received gifts and food for the holidays through Greccio's Adopt-a-Family Program. These families were so grateful that they helped create a video to express their thankfulness. Please watch it! It will make your whole day to witness the happiness shown by these sweet families. Greccio hosted its annual Donor & Volunteer Reception last week at Wildridge Apartments. Everyone had a great time and we are grateful to our event sponsor Sparks, Willson, Borges, Brandt, & Johnson, P.C. for helping us honor those who have supported Greccio Housing over the past year.
Event catering was graciously provided by Garden of the Gods Gourmet. Desserts were very generously donated by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Front Range Barbeque, and Sugar Rush Cookies.

Greccio Housing residents will have the opportunity to tend their own garden this summer though a generous donation from Pikes Urban Gardens. PPUG will provide garden plots at Dorchester Park, and will also supply seeds and water for residents.
This is a wonderful opportunity for Greccio's residents to grow fresh vegetables and live healthier lifestyles. Many thanks to PPUG for caring about our community!

Greccio Housing recently announced its Claudia Deats-Rodgers Donor Society, named in honor of Greccio's founder and first executive director. Greccio's other founders are named for each donation level. Donors who contribute to Greccio Housing at one of the donation levels, will be honored in Greccio's Annual Report.
Greccio is currently gathering school supplies for its 150 resident children, who will start the school year in a few short weeks. Please bring any donated school items to Greccio and we will happily pass them along to kids. Together we will lay a great educational foundation for our resident families!

Many of Greccio's residents have lost their transportation to work with the reduction of the city's bus routes. Many of these residents could get to work if they had bicycles. If you have an unused bike lying around your house, please consider donating it to Greccio Housing. We will give it to a resident who needs reliable transportation to and from work. This kind and simple gift will save a job, a home, and possibly a future. Thank you!
Greccio Housing, along with its housing partners Rocky Mountain Community Land Trust and Partners in Housing recently opened a new 24 unit apartment property for Greccio's affordable housing program. Bentley Commons was built in 2006 and subsequently went into foreclosure. It was purchased with federal stimulus dollars. On November 15th, 2009, Greccio held a ribbon-cutting event that included the move-in of all the new residents. Please view the below news story regarding this wonderful event. Greccio Housing recently opened its 13th property, Citadel Arms Apartments. Citadel Arms has 21 units and is near Citadel Mall. Under an agreement with HUD, Greccio is offering 10 of the units to chronically homeless individuals. We are very excited about this new program, as it will help so many to find better lives off the streets. Please click here to see Greccio's property map.
Greccio Housing gives each of its new residents a laundry basket filled with household items. These items help new families build a home and show them how much we care. In the below photo, our Resident Enrichment Manager, Lee Willis, is putting together welcome baskets with the help of two Resident Council members.

Greccio Housing recently renovated its North Weber property to make the apartments more energy efficient for its low-income residents. Residents will now save an average of $40 per month because of these energy improvements. Thank you to our event sponsors!!
